Thots On BBN and Focus On the Family Radio Broadcast

Well, it's official.  BBN has cancelled Focus On the Family's (FOF) daily radio broadcast.  I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed.  Yet, I also understand their reasoning.  I won't try to convince you if you are in disagreement, but I will ask you - are you in disagreement because you so enjoy the broadcast and are disappointed at its cancellation?  Or are you in disagreement for theological reasons?  Your personal preference is one thing, but God's preference (or at least our sincere attempts to live by it) is another.  For me, I have a sincere respect for BBN's theological stance and willingness to "sacrifice" some listeners over it.  I also am glad that there is another station in Hinesville where I can hear Focus on the Family (88.3 FM).

The theological reasons?  FOF is too political.  BBN's express purpose is BIBLE broadcasting, not political purposes.  I understand that believers are to be salt and light to their community, and so I personally would not make the decision that Dr. Lowell Davey, President of BBN, made, but I respect his willingness to take the stand he's made.  I believe that believers are salt and light by sharing the gospel, AND speaking up for God's righteousness in our government.  It is the very fact that believers like Dr. Davey hold a "silence" perspective on political issues that the liberal left has been given an open door to our country.  That "silence" perspective is as old as the early 1900's - and certainly was NOT the perspective of believers of the founding generation, or of the great awakenings of the 1800's.  I believe it's part of the great sleeping of our nation.  No, you cannot legislate morality nor spirituality, but to think that political policies have no influence on a nation's spirituality is foolish.  I guess that means I respect a fool.  But, as Paul, the apostle, said, "I'd rather be a fool for Christ" - and that's just what Dr. Davey is doing.  Therefore, I still respect Dr. Davey, for in this world when so few are willing to clearly stand out as a Christian, Dr. Davey will do so.
