Thots On Our Nation

Like usual, been reading the headlines, the Bible, and commentaries of Believers over the Internet.  Want to take this opportunity to try to gel them together in my mind (and now on my blog).  Let me do it this way: I'll make a few comments about some specifics and then summarize at the end my thots on our nation.

Albert Mohler (President of Southern Seminary, Louisville), in his blog, has been doing a series on homosexuality as the great social experiment of our time.  He mentions (and don't quote me, I'm not being scholarly today) that the book of Romans (Ch. 1) indicates that when a nation turns to sins of homosexuality, it is because God has turned His back already on them and let them go the course they have chosen.  Homosexuality is the direct result of unbelief - and nations which choose that as an acceptable practice will not be long for this earth.  The natural result of embracing it is destruction - of the family, social fabric, children, and government.  While those who embrace it are too short-sighted and blind to see the end result of this choice, those who trust in the Lord can see it as clearly as day.

On the radio yesterday I heard a commentator mentioning the spiritual hunger in Washington, D.C. - something the liberal media has overlooked and under-reported.  Attributing this spiritual hunger to the faith of the President, the speaker mentioned also the division in the country over the courts and the congressional battles that are centered on the President's nomination of Associate Justice.  While I don't know Ms. Miers, I know that if she is as strict a constitutional constructionist as the President says she is, that, coupled with her lack of judicial experience will make for a tough battle indeed.  However, even if she is not confirmed in the end, she certainly serves as an offering on the altar of ideas that this country MUST face.  Her faith is real, and to be thrust into the spotlight of American Politics at this point in our history can only make the average American as well as EVERY congressman take a stand in our country.  This may polarize or unite our nation.  Either way, though, it is clearly a turning point - and for that I credit our President!  I'm all for making this nation choose where she stands.  As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord!

NOW FOR THE SUMMARY
While some see the evidence of a God who has turned His back on our nation, I see a glimmer of hope:  hope that we will repent, though I fear that we may not.  I see a hope that under the leadership of our President, our Pastors, and folks like James Dobson of Focus on the Family and the leadership of other organizations (i.e., Christian Law Association, American Family Association, etc.) working together to unite the faith community of our country, we might just see the Christians take a stand and return this nation to some semblance of decency and freedom.  The moment we quit the battle becomes the moment of defeat.  There is no retreat, no regrouping, and no time to rest.  We need to fight the battle so we might continue to share the gospel freely in our nation - which is the very heart of the battles we address.  The godless wish to silence the ungodly.  The unrighteous have always persecuted and attacked the righteous, and America is certainly and obviously not immune to such perversion of the truth or injustice by the unwholesome.  We must pray, speak, and unite.  We must obey our Lord, and proclaim His Truth.  We must fight error, and carefully search the Scriptures with believing and faithful hearts.  Most of all, we must be cleansed by the blood of Christ that our sins be forgiven, and led by His all-wise Holy Spirit that we might win the battle that truly already belongs to Him.
