Thot's On Today's Headlines

Ok, so folks aren’t flocking from the East to the West as much as once thought (see Asylum requests to West drop to near 20-year low).  Could it be that terrorism has made the word “asylum” archaic?  Could it be the declining morality making asylum less attractive?  Could it be the political shifts toward liberalism?  Could it be that the West is beginning to look more like the East?  I suppose somewhere, the benefit of Western society is perceived as shrinking.  What would change that?  I believe a genuine and active faith in Jesus Christ, and public policy that reflects that faith.

Elsewhere – namely Mississippi – the modern abortion ban that seems to be taking the nation is failing.  Why?  Politics.  (See the BP report on it: Mississippi abortion ban bill could be doomed).  If you read the report, you’ll see that the politics is still in the courts – and passage of this bill may be delayed until more anti-Roe SCOTUS justices are appointed.  Guess the legislatures are now cowed by this small panel of autocrats.  I wish we could just return to the days of doing what’s right because it’s right, not doing what will “pass” be it right or wrong.

A new poll indicates that "values voters" aren't getting what they want from Congress, the Family Research Council said. (See CNSNews’ News This Hour).  That poll didn’t need to be taken – it’s a no-brainer!  Of course values voters aren’t getting what we want from Congress – the land of the valueless – or is it that the only thing they value is their seat?  They’ll surely say what they think will get them there, then do what they think will keep them there.  One empty promise after another.

Mississippi’s in the news for another reason – their “wonderful” governor thinks that folks should smoke cigarettes while forgoing their food.  (See Keep Grocery Tax, Leave Cigarettes Alone, Governor Says).  Bet you don’t hear this one in the mainstream media.  They want lower taxes on cigarettes, too.  Can’t afford the drinks and drags without some governmental help?  But my point is that it seems backwards to make it more expensive to feed the people than to pay for the healthcare for not feeding them in the first place.  Wow – what the love of money brings us to!

Now the US may face China in battle, according to the Washington Times.  (See Pentagon 'hedge' strategy targets China.)  It doesn’t matter to me what the issue, I believe that the US isn’t the “world power” we think we are at this point.  With as many resources as we have tied up in the middle east, we don’t stand much of a chance in the far east – especially against an army the size of China’s.  Anyone remember the Korean War?

Need a laugh?  Here’s a good one for you - Robbers tip off cops with accidental 911 call.  There doesn’t need to be much more in the report.  I guess that maybe these robbers were politicians?  After all, they leaked their operation before it happened, and blew their cover mindlessly.  Sounds like its got politics all over it to me! (Smile!)

Have a great day!
