Bible Reading:
(2 Peter 1:4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
When I was a child, one of the greatest mysteries to me was the inability of animals to mate across species. Why couldn't a horse and cow mate? Dogs and cats? I wasn't perverse in this, I simply didn't understand. But in God's wonderful creation, there is almost a "law" that governs these things. One must have the nature of one's mate. That is altogether different than becoming one's mate.
So, dear friend, it is with the things of God. It is possible, through the power of God, to have one's nature changed into that of God, Himself. This is what happens at the point of salvation. We don't become God - but we are given the nature of God. The Bible says we are "partakers of the divine nature." In spite of what some teach, we do not become gods, but we become "like God" in regards to His image. "God is love" - so we become more loving. "God is truth" - so we become more true and love that which is true. The Bible even promises that we become members of the body of Christ. His life is our life. His head controls our hands. His purpose is our purpose. But we are not the Savior. We are the Savior's Bride!
This is a mystery that our heads cannot fathom - yet our souls resonate and rejoice in this truth. To become one nature with the Father through faith in the Son is one of the most blessed and mighty of things that could happen to a person! Yet, we must remember this as we go about our daily walk - and walk as we are (partakers of the divine nature); not as we were (fallen and sinful, full of lust and corruption). This will affect how we treat others, how we respond to the world around us, and the choices we make in our lives. God becomes first, as we live the Christ-life. All else falls away to a distant second at best.
