Passage: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Main Point: Recognize the times and share that with others. No light keeps to itself.
· Promise The Lord is coming - and he will return quickly, unexpectedly, and when everyone is least prepared.
· Lesson I find it strange that people these days are so unfamiliar with the teaching that Jesus will come unexpectedly. I also find it strange how so few preachers these days are reminding their churches of this truth. More and more people are unprepared, unaware, and unconcerned with the imminent return of Christ.
Verse 4 says that believers (ye, brethren) are not in darkness. We are fully aware, even if not from our spiritual leaders, because of the presence of the Holy Spirit who enlightens us always. It behooves us to learn His voice, listen to His teaching, and above all, stay focused in His service. His Word will testify to this as well, so Bible Study is important.
Devotional: Christian, the darkness is around you, but the light is within you. The light reveals the truth. The darkness hides it. The truth is that Christ is returning, and the world will not expect it. Believers, be aware, be ready, and rejoice that you have the "insider" knowledge of this world-changing event. It will be something that will change the lives of every living being. It will happen so quickly there won't be "reaction time." Don't be unprepared.
Holler for Jesus,
Greg Yount
