How Much Do You Trust God?

Passage:  Genesis 13, 15, 22

Main Point:  How Much Do You Trust the Lord?

  • Promise?  God promises Abram that He would make a great nation out of Him and bless the entire world through that nation.  He promises protection against enemies as well.
  • Lesson?  Do we believe God can be faithful to keep His promises while asking us to do what seems to prevent Him from being able to keep those promises?
  • Command?  Trust God in ALL situations.
  • Revelation about God? Often, God challenges us with tests of faith.  He is not looking for sacrifice so much as an opportunity to work through us - if we are willing.

Devotional:
The challenge that God gave to Abram was to offer his son as a sacrifice to God.  How many of us could do that?  What if God also had promised before-hand to bless you so richly that, just for trusting Him, He would make you the father of a great nation?  What if God promised that through that nation, He would bless every people-group on the globe?  Now, if I was Abram, I'm not sure how I'd feel if God then asked me to offer my only son as a sacrifice.  I mean, how could a God ask me to trust Him and then break my heart that way?  How could such a God see fit to take my only child - the means by which I was to become a great nation?  That's a double-whammy!  That would be a cruel God.

But Abram… Abram was willing.   He trusted God.  He trusted that God was Good.  He trusted that God was loving.  He trusted that God knew something.  He trusted that God was powerful and able to do something.  He trusted that God would make a way to keep His promise.  He trusted that God cared.  And Abram was right!!!!  God spared Isaac.  God gave Abram a sacrifice.  God blessed Abram.  God blessed the entire human race - for through Abram came the Savior of Mankind!  MY Savior came through Abram!  Your Savior came through Abram.

So what keeps ME from trusting God the same way.  After all, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!  Why do I doubt?  Why do I reason myself away from seeing His mighty hand in my life?

  1. aren't we fortunate that God still loves us when we doubt and when our faith is small. we rarely display centurion faith but He is still able to cause our faith to grow and show us His glory. interesting read.
