Passage: Exodus 1-5
Main Point: God's call on Moses is very similar to His
call to Christians
- Promise? God promises to protect and provide for His messengers.
- Lesson? Obey God's calling as the highest order of the day.
- Blessing? Where else will you get to see the Hand of the Invisible One moving so powerfully?
- Command? Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- Revelation about God? God is the same today as He was in Moses' day. God's love and protection, provision and success are just as valid today as in Moses' day. God's working in our world is as real here in Bakersfield as in Egypt so many centuries ago.
- Thoughts about the devil? While no specific mention is made of the devil, it is the devil who holds people as slaves to their sin; the devil is paralleled by Pharaoh.
Devotional:
There is a striking
parallel between Moses' call and the call of the Christian - indeed, my own
call. While there are differences in the
details, the similarities reveal that the God who called Moses also called me! Moses, on his way through his life,
encountered trouble and was cast aside, fleeing for his life. My sin left me without hope and alienated
from others. God arrived unexpectedly to
Moses in a burning bush. He showed up in
my drunken state, quite unexpectedly, but very clearly. Moses' argument that the people wouldn't
listen or believe him was as real as my own.
God's promise and procedure was to give Moses the message of deliverance
as God tells him. So, I must share the
message of deliverance as the Lord instructs me. Moses' success was up to God. So is mine!
What a privilege to be the messenger of deliverance to a people captive
to sin whom God loves with an everlasting love and He desires an eternal
freedom and fellowship ! No greater
message could be proclaimed! No Higher
Purpose could be given! The Lord be
glorified!
