Thots on the Good and Bad of Disaster Relief

Who could miss the headlines about the disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Katrina?  Who could miss the political ploys of the Democrats as they seek to attack the President and his administration?

But have you noticed that the liberal media reports none of the pre-disaster relief rejections that the democratic leadership of both New Orleans and Louisiana exercised?  When the President offered monies before the storm, they had to “think about it.”  Louisiana was given millions to fix and upgrade the levies and pumps and used that money on some other things.  Much of the calamity brought to the people of New Orleans was brought on themselves by their own Bush-bashing leaders who were hoping for an opportunity, indeed, creating an opportunity for more Bush-bashing.

But who is really hurt?  Our President?  Hardly.  It is the people of New Orleans who are without homes, livelihoods, and now, without decent and moral leadership.  Perhaps fleeing to the rest of the country will open their eyes to their own poor choices of leaders, and they will return to following the Lord –

It is also my hope that those giving so generously of their time, finances and resources to help those so devastated will be genuinely blessed and strengthened  - and effective at making a genuine and eternal difference in the lives of those they help.  May Jesus’ name be praised, and His glory magnified!

I agree with you one hundred percent. The blame lies first and foremost with the leadership of Louisiana itself. The Mayor, Governor and other officials would now like for us to believe that they were "sideswiped" by this Hurricane. Puh-lease! They had plenty of advance notice that a Hurricane 5 (in the beginning) was headed directly for them. Did they do all they needed to do to evacuate their people? Absolutely not. Did they fully stock their shelters so that they would be able to take care of those inside? Absolutely not! As you mentioned, have they used monies that were supposed to go toward upgrading of levies, pumps, etc. Absolutely not! That money has been used for their own purposes for other things. They allowed their citizens to die because they were to poor to leave. (not black mind you, just poor. I don't go for the race card being played here.)What about all of the school buses floating under water that could have been used to evacuate these people? The leaders of Louisiana did not prepare nor did they think of their constituents that put them into office in the first place. They won't be re-elected I bet.
As for Bush, this is not his fault. The Dems will try and do everything in their power to trash the President. I must admit that I do feel that Bush could have come forward a day or two earlier and said, Hey, things are not happening fast enough!! That did disappoint me some. Fema in my opinion has been a disgrace. Though they are now helping people they didn't act fast enough. I believe heads will roll when this is all said and done. It's kind of funny that the people who actually got in there first with aid, food, water, etc. were people from various churches and Salvation Army. HHHHMMMM.......God's people act before the government....What a thought!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I truly believe God will be magnified in this situation. It is a true testament to the character of Jesus how his people have responded so quickly to the needs of others.
