Thots On The Thanksgiving Takeover

Thanksgiving – something hopefully we all are thinking about, but I doubt it.  Lately I’ve been surprised at the takeover that is happening across our nation – where Christmas takes over Thanksgiving.  Down the streets of Hinesville, some people were putting up Christmas decorations and lights before Halloween.  Many more have been put up in the past week.  But I’ve not seen any decorations for Thanksgiving.  The stores put out a “fall” type decorative display section (I.e., Wal-Mart) but those sections were up for about a week before they made way for candy, costumes and Christmas lights.  Thanksgiving has all but disappeared from our culture.  The takeover is nearly complete.

Our nation has forgotten Thanksgiving because thanksgiving makes us think about God.  How can we truly be thankful if we are not thankful to God?  If you haven’t listened to today’s Focus On the Family broadcast, I urge you to do so.  There are some great ways to bring Thanksgiving back to the family, back to the community, and if enough of us do them, back to the nation.  There’s also a bit about the spiritual heritage of our nation’s holiday, and that might just explain the opposition – for there is a move afoot to remove all spiritual (God-fearing) things and people from our land.

Anyway, taking time each day, not just on Thanksgiving, to meditate and thank God for who He is, what He has done, and what He is doing is a terrific blessing and a joy.  I wouldn’t want you to miss out on it.  Stop and thank God for His Son, Jesus Christ.  Thank God for the cross and the salvation purchased on it for you.  Think and thank God for the presence of His Holy Spirit in you.  Thank God for making His will known to you.  Thank God for the marvelous redemption He has brought to your life.  Thank God for. . .

Don’t let the enemies of God take thanksgiving out of your hearts and lives.
