Thots On Being a People-Pleaser

Life can be harsh.  I’ve noticed that in doing what’s right, you will bring fire from someone.  You’ve heard the old adage, “you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all the people all the time.”  Well, that one’s pretty much true – for some people.  I’ve found that pleasing others isn’t at all easy, and that “some of the people” that I seem to be able to please are all younger than 10 years old – unless I simply give the older ones their way.  I’m just not a people-pleaser.  Good thing, too.

God doesn’t want us to be “people pleasers.”  He wants us to be “Christ-followers.”  Know what that means?  Of course you do.  But have you thought much lately about what that entails?  It means going where Jesus wants to lead us.  It means doing what Jesus does.  It means taking time to get to know Jesus personally.  It means paying attention to His character and embracing that for ourselves.  It means loving the hard-to-love as much as the folks we really like.  It means letting Christ know about our weakest and most embarrassing things.    Being a “Christ-follower” isn’t as easy as some think it might be.

But being a “Christ-follower” is definitely a great thing to be.  You get to see the glories of the Living God.  You get to see just how powerful He is.  It is amazing to consider that the creator of the universe is working with all His power on your behalf!  That’s great to know anytime, but especially when we’re in a tight spot.

I think I’ll spend more time trying to please Christ than pleasing people.  What do you think?
