Everyone’s getting ready for a new year and I feel like I’m getting ready for a new life. January 1, 2006 will begin a new ministry (formally) in a new place with new people – many whom I’ve yet to meet. Getting the household set up has been a chore – and we’re not quite done yet. However, we’ve finally cleared out the majority of the boxes (we’re down to one or two per room) – even if we still have the empties out under the carport awaiting trash pickup. Tomorrow (Fri) I have to go to the church and start on my office. It never ends.
The thought of starting a new life is lost in business – I haven’t had time to really think about things much. Sometimes that’s good. Sometimes that’s not so good. Well, in this case, I think it’s pretty good.
As I sit and write this, though, I’m doing some thinking about the whole thing. I would love to be profound here, but I just don’t seem to be able to. Nevertheless, I find that this new life will probably be something I can get used to, enjoy, and with the Lord’s help, even be a blessing to others. I want to get settled to where I can make a future for my kids, etc. There will be some things that I’ll need to be able to do that will be a help to the community on a physical level – so that I can also be a help on a spiritual level. Fitting in means being needed in some way.
Guess that’s just what the New Year celebration is about in some respects – being needed. As I look back on the years that were “bad” I needed more help than I thought I could give. The good years were the opposite – I gave more than I needed to get. In return, I gained self-respect and confidence in the Lord’s provision of strength, wisdom, and material items that were needed to accomplish His will. All in all, I would say 2005 qualified as a “good year.” I only hope that 2006 will prove to be the same way.
Well, I hope that your 2006 is full of blessing and joy – even through the trials that will come your way. Keep your eyes on Christ, and you may rest assured, He’ll use you to bless others. That is a joy and a blessing for you as well. Be satisfied in Christ and you’ll never need to look elsewhere – and you’ll truly be satisfied in the end.
