Thots On the Cross

Drawn By the Cross
John 12:23-36
1/10/06

I read the devotional in "Our Daily Bread" today - and it stirred my thoughts, pointing them more completely upon my Savior's work at Calvary on my behalf.  What a well of sweetness this is to my dry and weary soul - parched through the emptiness of life on earth.  How sweet to know that the sins of selfishness and greed that not only permeate the headlines but also the hearts of most Americans, myself not included, have been taken upon the very shoulders of Christ for all eternity.  How sweet to know that the Holy One of Heaven would draw this helpless one of hell unto Himself!

The death He died was not a glorious death to behold, but the manner in which He went was certainly a glorious manner indeed.
  • He went willingly, knowing the pain it would cause Him.

  • He went expectantly, knowing the need of my heart would be met.

  • He went righteously, knowing that there was neither someone else who could do it, nor some other way it could be done.

  • He went lovingly, knowing that in so doing, all who believe would become His joint-heirs to the throne of Heaven.

  • He went powerfully, knowing that not only sin would be destroyed, but Satan, too.

These wonderful truths about my Savior are an oasis of blessing to my soul today.  It is so precious to know that my God, the Living God of Heaven, is keenly interested in me; that He loves me and cares for me with a perfect love and care; that, no matter what happens to me, it is all in His perfect and powerful hands and nothing escapes His purposes or perception!  I am His, and He is mine!  He drew me to Him, and He draws me to Him.  His love is toward me!  Who can resist such sweet love?
