Thots On My First Day

My first day – it went well.  Several people weren’t there due to illness or travel, so attendance wasn’t as high as I thought it would be.  I learned much by listening to the people.  The ministry will pose its challenges, but nothing our Lord cannot handle.  So, I am completely dependent upon Him for guidance and wisdom: what to do, how to do it, when to do it, etc. must all come from Him.  Leading the Saints is easy – reaching the lost is not.  Combining the two is a Divine thing and so I’m glad I have a Divine Lord.

The people are terrific.  Old and young alike are a blessing to be around.  It will take some time before they begin to come to me with questions and trust me with personal things, but getting to know them is fun.  Jane and I really enjoy the neighbors when we get a chance to talk.  Folks are really nice here in Bakersfield.  But don’t go to Wal-Mart.  People aren’t so nice there!  You’ll need full football protective gear before entering (.

Looking forward to an exciting and fulfilling ministry here at Bakersfield First Baptist Church.  Still miss the folks back in Hinesville, though, and pray for them as they go through their transition.  It’s tough.
