What 2010 Means to Me

When you think of 2010, what comes to mind?  On either the last Sunday of the year or the first one of the new year, I usually preach something about “forgetting what is behind and pressing on to what is ahead…”  This year is different.  The year 2010 is different for me.  The year 2010 is special to me.

“Why?”  Because of something that may very well occur which affects every human soul that  ever existed.  I am talking about the second coming of the Lord, or the rapture of the church.  This is a topic I am not hearing much about anymore.  It doesn’t even seem to be something the popular preachers are talking about.  The biblical promise is that it would happen when we least expect it.  Could it be that the year 2010 will be the year we least expect?

Look with me at the following verse:  Matthew 24:14  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.  (Emphasis mine)

Now consider something that happened way back in 2003.  I was pastor of South Main Baptist Church in Hinesville, GA (home of the 3rd Infantry Division and Ft. Stewart).  Actually two things happened that year.  They were similar, however.

The first was a public announcement by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.  Their stated objective was to take the gospel, in native language, to every MAJOR people group known to man – around the globe.  Yes, all nations, this gospel shall be preached in all the world.  The International Mission Board said their mission would be complete at the current rate of progress in 2010.  The second thing that happened occurred about one month later.  It was another public announcement.  This time it came from an organization that is NOT Southern Baptist; in fact it is NOT connected with any particular denomination.  That group was called Gospel Recordings.  They are now called Global Recordings Network (GRN).  GRN, totally unaware of the announcement and totally unconnected to the announcement of the International Mission Board, declared that their mission of taking the gospel in the native language of every MINOR people group known to man would be complete in 2010 if their progress continued at the rate it was happening in 2003.  So, both MAJOR and MINOR people groups would have heard the gospel sometime in 2010 – and then shall the end come!

Now you know why the year 2010 is special to me.  I wonder if those groups met their goal?  Then shall the end come!  Are you ready?  Do you know Jesus as your Savior and Lord?  Have you asked Him to forgive you of your sins, to come into your life and live His through you?  Have you given yourself to Him for Him to lead you in every decision, major and minor?  Have you made Him the most important person in your life?  If Jesus returns for those who have, will you be among them?

Just a Thought
