God Bless the USA

God would love to bless the USA, but we won’t let Him – the USA won’t bless Him back!

As a Christian who firmly believes in the power of God to transform humanity from the inside out into righteous people by the presence of Jesus Christ, I am faced with a stark reality that tells me God’s blessing is nothing like what it used to be, or what it could be. Our country’s government has decidedly refused to acknowledge God publicly. There are a few pockets of resistance still standing at the local and state levels, but they are being whittled down one by one through the lawsuits of the ACLU and the liberal decisions of the courts. Congress has passed law after law that on one hand preserves “religious freedom” while on the other hand silences the Christian voice across the land, in the schools, and in the governing houses. They even want the phrase “one nation under God” stricken from the pledge of allegiance, and the motto, “In God we Trust” stricken from our money. The executive branch, by top generals up to the President, himself, have dissolved the very power of the USA by covering up the name of Christ, accepting terms with the Middle East whereby soldiers are forbidden from sharing their faith with the local people, and all sorts of other God-denying policies.

By denying the Lord, His power, and His place in our history we forfeit the blessing of God on our nation. We have turned our backs on God, who has died to set us free. We celebrate our soldiers who die for our freedom, but we denigrate and minimize the God who died a cruel death for our freedom. We want freedom to do as we will while the greatest freedom we reject – the freedom from sin. I suppose America has chosen to be free TO sin, not free FROM sin. God and sin do not co-exist. When our nation truly repents of her sins, not just declaring that we are sorry for them, but turning back to God through Jesus Christ for help, our land will then be blessed. How can we be so bold as to ask God’s blessing on our nation while we reject God, Himself?

Holler for Jesus,

Greg Yount
