Getting the Word

I read a devotional this morning that told the story of the Titanic’s radio man who failed to deliver a warning message to the captain regarding a field of icebergs just ahead. The result: over 1,500 lives were lost when the Titanic sunk in that field. It could have been avoided.

That made me think of another incidence, more recently, when an Islamic radical with all the signs of impending violence took the lives of 13 people at Ft. Hood; and another who, but for his incompetence, would have claimed over 300 lives on Christmas Day. These stories are pregnant with evidence that the warning message never got through to those who could have averted the tragedies. Getting the Word through would have avoided the calamities.

But there is a greater tragedy happening in your neighborhood – indeed in your home. It is the tragedy that too many are not hearing the gospel, not seeing its transformational power, not being saved from the penalty of sin: eternal separation from God in hell!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares how powerful this message is. It is the power of God unto SALVATION! We MUST get the word out! Lives are lost every day and those that didn’t get the Word are NOT saved, however much loved they were by friends and family.

Just a Thot – The gospel of Christ is the ONLY message that saves; and it only saves if it is trusted (believed); and that trust is something each person must do for him/herself (everyone). Have YOU gotten the word? Have you given your life to Jesus? From what has He saved you?

Holler for Jesus,

Greg Yount
