When Fame Is A Good Thing

It’s that time of the year. All the TV Stations are broadcasting 2009 in review, now that it’s over. With the end of 2009 also comes the end of a decade, so the last 10 years are also being reviewed. Top stories, top personalities, all sorts of oddities are remembered. One interesting thing is that the famous are not always famous, and their fame is not always good. Too often, fame comes at the expense of others for the sake of the famous. But there is a fame that even Jesus Christ had, and of course, it was a good sort of fame. If only more would have that kind of fame today.

Luke 5:12-15 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

When Jesus was doing good, it made Him famous. He healed those who needed him. His greatest healing is from sin. “For the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23). He came to save his people from sin. Is it really shameful to want to be healed by Jesus? The world mocks Jesus and those who trust in Him. The world mocks sin and salvation. But the fame of Jesus continues to grow. It is a good thing. As more and more people come to know of Jesus, hopefully, more and more will come TO Jesus for His healing! You’ll never be the same again, if you will be healed by Him!

So, just a thought: Fame is a good thing when it’s used to heal people of their greatest ailment – sin.
