Do You Need a New Wardrobe?

Passage
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Main Point:  God's Righteousness and Salvation cover us completely - beautifully and forever.

  • Promise?  God's Righteousness and Salvation are what is seen upon/within us.
  • Lesson?  God looks at the inward appearance - where He finds the garments He provided for us through Christ, our LORD and Savior - the garments of righteousness and salvation.  Our standing before God is always good.  The blood of Jesus cleanses the stains better than OxyClean.  The eternal nature of these garments mean that they will never run out of style; they will always look good and their colors do not run or fade.  I certainly have not deserved these, could not earn them, and have been given them by the love of the LORD only; His gift to me.
  • Command?  To rejoice in the Lord and to praise Him!

Devotional:  Throughout the years of my life, I've changed jobs and careers several times.  First a soldier, then a teacher, then a salesman, then a pastor.  Each change required a new wardrobe.  That was not an easy thing to afford!  Clothing costs preceded paychecks.  Nevertheless, putting on a new suit, uniform, or shoes always made me feel like I had a new lease on life - an opportunity to do great things for the Lord!

But the best wardrobe are richer and more colorful than the best, most expensive suit I ever owned - the clothing of Christ's righteousness and salvation.  No store has ever had this suit on sale.  They were bought by God at a price only He could pay - the death of His Son!  Yes!  Jesus' death on the cross paid for my sins so I might have His righteousness. There  has never been a cleaner that was able or worthy to clean these  garments.   But, since I am human, I mess up - the blood of Jesus that washes my soul clean of all sin has been shed for my stains so I might have a spotless garment.  These garments never wear out.  They last longer than any label or material known to man.  They are eternal.  No one can steal them, for they are kept by God, made for my heart, and stored in Heaven where no sin can enter.  They are always in fashion.  They fit perfectly and make me feel like I have a real hope and a secure future because I am wearing them.  I act more the part when I have them on.  I don't want to mess them up.  They are given to me - I did not earn them.  What a wonderful act of Grace and Love our LORD did when He fitted us with HIS Wardrobe of Righteousness and Salvation!

Yes, we can truly rejoice greatly in our LORD, for these are His clothes.
