Passage: Psalms 55:22 KJV Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall
sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Main Point: Trust the Lord with your spiritual burdens -
and physical ones - by giving them to Him.
You will see His strength, freedom, and protection throughout the day.
- Promise? Trust God with your cares - give them to Him and worry no more over them - and God will sustain you, protect you, and free you from their weight.
- Lesson?
- Blessing? Freedom from worry, fear, guilt, shame, jealousy, grief, fear, anger, or sorrow is truly a blessing. So is protection from enemies, strength for tasks, and assurance for the future. All come when we trust the Lord.
- Sin? The implication is that NOT trusting the Lord with our burdens is a sin - and the consequences are clear - the freedom is NOT ours, and we are weighed down, defeated.
- Revelation about God? God cares for our smallest needs, deepest concerns, and daily challenges. Our personality is not too big for God to take and re-mold into what He wants - if we will give it to Him.
Devotional:
As a soldier, one
frequent requirement was to carry a rucksack filled with equipment and clothing
during the day's training. That was on
top of about 80-100 lbs. of body armor.
With all of that, learning to maneuver, crawl, run, shoot, and hide
became an exhausting adventure. At the
end of the day, back in the safety of home base, we could finally drop our
load. What a relief that was! Our bodies were spent, but they felt light,
free, and relaxed.
Jesus invites us to
drop our emotional and spiritual loads on Him - before we go out on exercises
and training each day. We don't have to
wait until we get to home base to drop our loads either.
He goes with us, so if we pick up a load along the day's activities, He
is there for us to give it to. There is
no longer any need to carry our guilt, shame, sorrow, grief, jealousies, fears,
or anger any further. We can take our
next step free of them all, having given our load to the Lord. We can face the tasks of the day free of
their burden and distraction. We can
offer forgiveness to those who hurt us because we gave Him the pain and leave
the consequences to Him. We can be free
of our own guilt because He has forgiven us.
We can be confident in His provision and protection, and live free of
jealousy, fear, shame, and anger behind.
We can experience His strength to do the tasks for the day in the
attitude of the Lord. He will sustain
us when we drop our Load on Him. He will grant us victory over these burdens
and order our footsteps so we can bless others, and stand unshaken before our
enemies.
So drop your load on
Christ right now, and be free!
