Who Needs God?

Deuteronomy 33:27a (KJV)  The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

Some people believe they can live well enough without God.  They don’t need affirmation from Him or anyone other than themselves.  They don’t need help from Him or anyone because they can handle it on their own.  They don’t need His friendship or the friendship of anyone because they are strong and self-reliant.  They are wise in their own eyes; legends in their own mind.  When a believer comes along with the offer of Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, they scoff; they huff and puff their self-reliance while scorning the believer’s faith, calling him/her weak and pitiful.  These self-reliant folks truly believe they can live just fine without God – and don’t mind shouting that to the world.  Yet, one thought stops them cold and they are either silenced or they change the subject:  they cannot die without God.

The Believer trusts God for life AND death.  God not only saves us from sin in this world, but in the next.  God is our defender against our enemies in this world and the accuser in the next.  Spiritual enemies of doubt, discouragement, fear, and shame assault us all the time.  The strong-minded, self-reliant ones believe they can win this spiritual battle through psychological soundness of mind.  Yet, their sins will always catch up to them – even if it is on the other side of the grave.  The Believer takes refuge in the blood of Christ today and forever, knowing that the eternal forgiveness cannot fail – even on the other side of the grave.  We all need God in death.  Death has no sting for Believers, but the self-reliant find death to be an eternal separation from the Almighty, a painful and horrifying isolation in a dark and burning eternity and no hope of remedy.  There is no hope for those who reject the only hope humanity has – the Salvation of God through Jesus Christ, His Son.

My friend, today, if you have not yet trusted the salvation of God, and made Jesus Christ your LORD and Savior; if you have not yet let the Lord have your life and entered into an eternal and very real relationship with Jesus, will you do so, today?  Simply speak to Him – He is listening.  Tell Him you are a sinner and need His forgiveness.  Tell Him you have rejected Him and no longer wish to do so.  Invite Him to live His life in you, and join His purpose for your life today.  Ask Him to give you assurance that you are His.  He will become your eternal refuge and lift you always with His everlasting arms – now and in eternity!

Holler for Jesus,
