THE PASSOVER MEANS "GOD'S NOT DEAD!"

Exodus 12:2  "This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.

As the Lord was speaking to Moses about the preparations and things to anticipate regarding the final judgment on Egypt which would lead to the Exodus of the Hebrews, God says that the reckoning of time would change.  For the Hebrews, their calendar would begin in the month that this Passover took place.  That was no small thing.  Neither was it confusing to the Hebrews.  They operated on a lunar calendar, as did most peoples in that day.  The difference in calendars was where they started and ended their "years" - much like financial accounting differences between "fiscal" and "calendar" years.

The beginning of a new year is always a significant event.  But to link the beginning of a new year to a specific significant event doubles the importantce to those who celebrate such a thing.  When that significant event was done by God and not man, the importance of the event is even greater.  Now, imagine that significant event being replicated twice, 1500 years apart, by the same God!  Before you say that's just imagination, I want to remind you that the Passover happened twice - once with literal lambs in Egypt, and once with the Lamb of God on Calvary!  The second one happened 1500 years AFTER the first, amongst the Jews as they celebrated the events of the first!

If Passover is not an amazing thing to ponder, then the Christ of the Passover should be.  That His death, burial and resurrection all occured with precise timing to coincide with the celebration of Passover stuns me.  That Men, other than Jesus, were willing participants, even though they were unknowing participants, is evidence of the Living God's hand in the whole thing.  Jesus coudn't orchestrate this alone.  Had the Jews known it, they would have picked a different time so as not to foul their Passover by killing the man, Jesus, whom they hated, in that season.  The Romans didn't want to cause a revolt by the Jews, so they gave the Jews what they asked for - Jesus.  They didn't crucify Jesus as a way to be "in the face" of the Jews on their Passover.  And yet, all these things still happened.  Why?

Your salvation was provided for you by the Living God of Heaven whom so many have rejected, denied, or ignored.  The first month of the year (Hebrew) was marked by God, remembered by God, and blessed by God to be the time when the only sacrifice for your freedom from slavery to sin would be accomplished.  The synchronicity of timing is not lost on the believing, and should not be lost on the unbelieving - that they might be persuaded to see that God's Not Dead!

That's Just A Thot about Jesus!

  1. So did the Jews kill Jesus in the middle of the Passover celebration? I don't see how they could be unaware that they were killing Him on Passover if they were celebrating it at the same time.

    1. I’m sure the Jews understood that they were killing a man named “Jesus” on the day of the Passover. What convinced them everything was ok is that the Romans were actually doing the “Putting to death.” What they also didn’t understand was that Jesus was the Messiah they were looking for. They thought him to be just a man – and a crazy blasphemer at that. Had they known who Jesus IS, they never would have slain Him on the Passover, they would have celebrated Him. That would not have been good for them, for without the Passover Lamb of God, there was no hope of redemption. One day, they will, as a nation, recognize the truth, and turn to Jesus in Faith. There will always be unbelievers, but the bulk of Jews will one day see the Light.
