Just-A-Tho't On America's Churches

I was reading the last chapters of 2Kings in my Bible (really doing some catch up reading; I confess) and the Lord spoke to my heart about our churches, our country's faith, and some of the very troubling news we are hearing these days from every corner, nook and cranny of our nation. I also put this together with the discussions I had with my Mom Sunday. Indeed, something is happening to the faith and churches of our country, and it is going to bring our nation down.

I hate to bring prophecies of gloom and doom anywhere, and greatly dislike being the bearer of bad news. But if we, as a nation, are ever to hope to remain strong, ever hope to unite, it must be a unity of faith - something that so many are working very diligently to prevent. Our judges reject the Bible, our schools reject the Bible, and now for the very dangerous bad news - our pulpits are rejecting the Bible. Our pulpits are filled with preachers who neither believe nor practice what they preach.

God has said time and again in His Word that nations which reject Him literally will fall. Israel and other nations that have done so have fallen just as He said. Many today are rejecting the idea of obedience to Christ, doubt Hell is real (if life on earth doesn't count) and that God will indeed justly cast anyone there if it does exist. Modern theology says the Bible is not trustworthy, but experiences and feelings are. Modern theology says that God is love and love does not punish. Modern theology says that it does not matter what you believe, who you know, or any such thing so long as you believe it with your heart. Sincerity trumps truth. In fact, modern theology believes that truth is relative.

But modern theology has not considered the thousands of prophecies of the Scriptures that have come true already - and literally, not figuratively, come true. When God said someone would die by the sword, it meant that a sword would kill him. If God said that the enemies of God's people would take them captive, that is just what happened. When God said Jesus would be born of a virgin in Bethlehem, heal the sick, give sight to the blind, and make the lame walk, that is just what Jesus did. It wasn't figurative. When God said that Jesus would die without bone being broken, that is just what happened. So when are we going to believe the Scriptures and realize that any nation that rejects the Scriptures as literally true will be destroyed? When will we realize that the following verse is true and real? Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Our pulpits contain preachers that sow discord, deceit, and disbelief. Our preachers are preaching a God of love, not a God of Justice (they are preaching only 1/2 of the truth, making it a lie). On Sunday they preach "come to God" but never get to the idea that we also must turn from sin if we ever hope to come to God. That is because of sin in their own life - they will not repent.

As a pastor, preacher, or pulpeteer (what ever you choose to call me), I am struck by this emphasis today. May my life reflect that turning from sin to do the will of Him who has called me, who has Saved me, who has bought me with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God. Blessed be His name, and may His reputation be forever Holy.
