Called my Mom and Sister yesterday (they live together, so it was only one call) to wish my Mom a Happy Mother's Day. Truth is, it was anything but a Happy conversation. Seems my Christian (Biblical) beliefs and her (their?) New Age mishmash beliefs clash - they clash over many issues, not the least of which is Truth.
Now, everyone I know believes in absolute truth - even Mom. But Mom, like many others I know, will not accept the idea that there is absolute truth in spiritual matters -- all because the truth as presented in the Bible makes them uncomfortable (and comfortable is the most important feeling when it comes to religion in their minds - even more important than the possibility that they might be wrong.). How dare anyone, even Jesus, say that there is an absolute truth, and that some believe the truth while others do not.
I am astounded by the arrogance that puts oneself in a position of superiority to even God Himself by proudly declaring that God has made a mistake in His creation, Word, or even that these truth-diluters know better than God what the real truth is (namely that there is no truth, making God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible into a lie and mockery). It breaks my heart, and I cry over the whole thing. Do you?
