Americans and exercise just don’t seem to mix these days. If you think you are an exercise nut, good – but look at the condition of our children and teens these days. Then look at the amount of obesity in our nation. I’m one of those stats – but I’m doing something about it.
I run 1.5 miles three days a week, sold one of my vehicles and ride my bike to work when I can (about 2 miles, one way). Now, I have found something that works for me. I’ve been running with a partner and the accountability helps me to see that I do it regularly. I’ve done this for about a month, and lost at least 6 lbs. (I haven’t weighed in yet this morning). Since day one I’ve felt better all throughout the day because of my 10-20 min. of exercise.
I encourage everyone to get out and get some exercise. If you need to lose weight, eat less or better. You don’t need some fancy diet plan. It’s simple – exercise and eat right. You’ll lose weight. If you need a friend to help you, get one. It’s more fun that way anyway.
By the way, the Bible says “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” (1Timothy 4:8) There is some profit in bodily exercise. Take advantage of it. It will help with the disciplines required of a good disciple of Christ. But exercise your spirit as well. That is the most valuable form of exercise.
I’ve noticed that when I exercise my body a little, I have less trouble exercising my spirit a lot. I’m glad it works that way – and I want you to experience the joy it brings. Will you try it for a month, like I have, and let me know what you think?
