Thots on Praising God

Psa 145:1  David's Psalm of praise. I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name forever and ever.

If ever someone had reason to flee God, it was David.  Consider that he was anointed to be king – but before he could be crowned, he had to endure many years of fleeing for his life from the guy he would be replacing.

What sort of God allows that to happen to His anointed?

The kind of God who will train His anointed to endure suffering for sin.
Sin causes great suffering – always.  Sin destroys families by breaking trust.  Sin destroys communities with crime and corruption.  Sin destroys nations with selfishness and greed.  And David was living in a sinful world, under a sinful king.  David needed to endure suffering for sin if he ever was to be a “man after God’s own heart.”  In many ways, David was a picture of Jesus Christ – who suffered for us all, and on Him (the anointed of God) was laid the iniquity (sin) of us all.

The kind of God who will be praised through it all.
David, like in this psalm, praised God no matter the difficulty he found himself in.  His love for the Lord exceeded everything.  Hardship and suffering, like nothing else, puts us in a position to either trust or curse God.  David chose the former, and rejected the latter.  Through suffering patience is learned because God always comes through in time – and so deserves praise.

Won’t you consider the suffering the Lord allows in your life to make you praise the Lord rather than simply running away from Him?
